When it was announced that the LUSH Summit was going to be invite only and wasn't open to the public, I wasn't really that surprised. After attending the Creative Showcase and seeing how pushy the public can be, I wouldn't have been surprised if the Summit would have been worse. I get that there are products sold there that may be available for that one day only and may never be released to the public or brought online for everybody to purchase and it can be exciting to get your hands on a product that not many other people have, but I think people sometimes forget about the reason behind the LUSH Summit.
The Summit was never an event that was created to push product, it was created to make awareness for charities that need our help. LUSH aren't just a company that put out products, make a profit and then put out some more products. LUSH campaign for many issues across the spectrum of human rights, animal protection and environmental preservation. There are so many different charities that LUSH work with, to raise money and awareness to help make the world a better place. You should give this page a read, it will detail every campaign that LUSH have worked on. Yes, we may get limited edition products, but the message behind them and the cause that our money is going to is so much more than having a one off bath bomb.
Yes, I am going to tell you what I think about these products that I managed to get thanks to some very lovely friends (@heather_loves_baths and @snapsoflush) but I am also going to tell you all about the charities (where I can) that the products are for and the work that the charities do, because charity is the most important part of the LUSH Summit.
Pictured - All You Need is Love (& Peace) bath bomb
If you were a fan of LUSH last year around the time of the Summit, this bath bomb may look very familiar to you. This bath bomb was released last year at the Summit also and was made available for people to purchase online. Last year, All You Need is Love went by the name of Groovy Kind of Love, and I have no idea why they had to change the name. I can imagine it was for some kind of copyright issue, as they have had a lot of those lately! I think this bath bomb probably has my favourite scent of the bunch! It has a very soft and light scent, quite like baby powder! The ingredients contain tuberrose absolute and neroli oil, which are both quite subtle scents so I can see where I am getting that scent from. I'm quite excited to try this one out and see how the end water turns out! The combination of all them colours can not end well, I imagine it will be a brown swampy colour, but we shall see!
I'm really not sure if this bath bomb was released for a specific charity. I have contacted LUSH and asked them if this one is for a charity, which charity in particular so I can help so spread awareness, but as of yet they have not gotten back to me. I will update this blog post when I find out more information.
Pictured - Baby Turtle jelly bomb
How super cute are these little guys! I wasn't surprised when I saw that these were jelly bombs, as as soon as I was sent an image of them they reminded me of the original Ectoplasm jelly bomb which was released for Halloween last year, but initially made an appearance at the Summit in 2017. There was also another, bigger version of this jelly bomb available to purchase at the Summit called Mama Turtle, which I think was super cute! The scent on this one is straight up pine. It's not my favourite kind of scent, but I don't mind it! It's very fresh and woodsy, if you like earthy scents then you're going to love this one! The scent is very powerful and strong, I can smell my Baby Turtle's over everything else.
Again, I'm not sure which charity this product was created to raise awareness for specifically, but I am aware of the situation surrounding turtles. Hundreds of thousands of sea turtles die each year from ocean pollution and ingestion or entanglement in marine debris. Marine debris is man made waste that is directly or indirectly disposed of in oceans, rivers, and other waterways. Most trash reaches the seas via rivers, and 80% originates from landfills and other urban sources. This waste, which is also consumed by fish and can entangle sharks and damage coral reefs, tends to accumulate in gyres (areas of slow spiralling water and low winds) and along coastlines. To raise awareness for this, LUSH have placed small biodegradable tubes in the centre of the bomb, to remind you that plastic causes serious issues for turtles and is a common cause of death. We need to make changes with the plastic industry to stop the amount of plastic that ends up in the ocean and is killing turtles. You can find further information here.
Pictured - Mermaid bath bomb
I absolutely love the look of this bath bomb! It literally looks like a pastel version of Intergalactic, so I'm very excited to see how this looks in the water. The scent of Mermaid is straight up Avobath, which I am not mad at at all. I love the fresh lemongrass and bergamot scent in Avobath and if anything, it's even stronger in Mermaid. I have seen some images of this being use in the bath and it looks so stunning once it hits the water, I don't think it will be long until I use this one for sure! I feel like the colour scheme in this one is something that LUSH are missing in their regular line products, so if this could possibly replace the boring style of Avobath that we have now, that would be much appreciated!
The Mermaid bath bomb was created to give awareness to the Mermaids UK charity. Mermaids UK help to provide support for gender diversity and transgender children and young people up to the age of 20. The charity was formed in 1995 by a group of parents who were brought together by their childrens longstanding incongruence. The charity has won multiple awards for their work, and rightly so! This bath bomb and the collaboration with Mermaids UK also ties into their current campaign over the pond in North America called #TransRightsAreHumanRights. If you would like to read more about LUSH's campaign for Trans Rights, you can find plenty of articles here and you can find Mermaids UK website here.
Pictured - Tiger Tiger Burning Bright bath bomb
This bath bomb has surprised me! I thought I was going to love the scent of Tiger Tiger because so many people had said it was the same scent as Prince Charming, which you would as they both contain grapefruit oil, sandal wood oil and geranium oil, but I honestly just get Lovestruck when I smell it, and we all know how much I hated Lovestruck! The main ingredient in Prince Charming is marshmallow root and vanilla pod infusion, so I guess that is what gives Prince Charming that sweetening scent. To be honest though, I don't even like the scent of Prince Charming! Tiger Tiger is giving me Cavalera vibes with the black sugar encrusted like waves into the bath bomb. I think this one will look quite pretty in the water and I am quite excited to see if the inside is a different colour.
The same goes for this bath bomb, I am not sure of which specific charity the proceeds go to, but I can give you some information on the hardship that tigers are facing. Tigers are considered to be one of the world's most threatened animal species. The global population has declined dramatically, and today there are less than four thousand specimens distributed in isolated parts of the Asian continent where centuries ago they populated extensive areas. The primary threats to the survival of Siberian tigers are poaching and habitat loss from intensive logging and development. You can find further information about tigers here.
Pictured - Trident Submarine bath bomb
I was so excited to get my hands on this bomb when I saw it and when I heard what the scent was! Trident Submarine has been much compared to Santas Christmas, in that it has a very cola scent to it. I really loved the Santas Christmas shower cream that was released at Christmas, so much so that I bought two 500g bottles of it and I always give it a sniff when I'm ratching through my collection. Trident Submarine does have a cola scent, but much more like fizzy cola bottles and less like an actual cola drink. I'm quite excited to get in the tub with this bath bomb as I can see the yellow colour peeking out from underneath!
Trident, where the bath bomb gets it name sake from is Britain's nuclear weapons deterrent. It consists of four Vanguard-class submarines which can carry up to 16 Trident II D5 ballistic missiles, each armed with up to eight nuclear warheads. The submarines were designed to last between 30 and 40 years - after which time they would need to be replaced, repaired or decommissioned. The Ministry of Defence has said that it could extend the life of the submarines by five to 30 years but this would be risky and expensive as it would involve repairing or upgrading the parts onboard. The total predicted cost of replacing the Trident nuclear weapons system will come to at least £205 billion, whereas it would be a lot cheaper to just renew the submarines, as the MoD have already stated that they can do. I don't think it's right that in this economic crisis we are already in, that we can dish out £205 billion to replace submarines that could just be fixed and worked on. I can think of many different things that the government could put their money in to. You can find further information about Trident, here.
Pictured - Argan Dragon regenerative shower oil
I was pleasantly surprised when I heard and smelt that this carries the same scent as Bubblegum lip scrub! I thought by the name that it would by Rose Jam, as there seems to be a link between that scent family and argan, for explain Jason & the Argan Oil shampoo bar and Ro's Argan body conditioner. While a lot of people are comparing this to Snow Fairy, it is not. It doesn't have the sickly scent that Snow Fairy carries, it is just nice and sweet. It has even been confirmed by Alessandro Commisso (@alecommy on Instagram) who actually invented the regenerative shower oils, that the scent is Bubblegum and not Snow Fairy. I'm quite excited to try this one out as I can see that one of the ingredients listed is poppy seeds, so I'm quite intrigued to see how exfoliating this product will be.
Pictured - Locococo regenerative shower oil
I was quite surprised when I smelt this shower oil to find that it shared the Yuzu and Cocoa scent. I find this weird as LUSH have basically removed this scent family from existence with the discontinuation of the shower cream and bubbleroon in 2017. It really makes no sense to me that they discontinue products in a scent, to only bring back new products in that scent. However, I am really glad that they decided to bring out a shower oil in this scent as I have been missing a bit of Yuzu and Cocoa. I'm not sure if Locococo has exfoliating properties, I guess we shall see when I try it out!
Pictured - Minamisoma regenerative shower oil
This is the kind of product that we Lushies have been asking for for a while! Another product that smells like Avocado Co Wash! Minamisoma smells amazing, and I think this is the shower oil that I am most excited to try out. I am going away to Edinburgh for a couple of nights for my birthday and the hotel we have booked has a shower (as I do not) so I plan to take this with me and see how it works out. Again, like with Locococo, I can't physically see any exfoliating properties in Minamisoma, but they may be hidden within the product. I will for sure let you all know that I think of this one after using it.
So they are all the products I managed to get from the LUSH Summit this year. It's really nice to be able to get my hands on these products as I always usually have to pass as I can never afford them at the time, but with friends like Jess and Heather, I am so thankful that they were able to help me out and get me these products.
Did you manage to pick up any Summit products? If so, what did you get and what do you think of them?
